About

DaVision is a refugee youth and women led organization based in the Kyaka II refugee settlement in Uganda. Davision group was established in 2017 with an aim of improving the lives of refugee women, who confront challenges such as gender-based violence, economic disenfranchisement, early marriages, and other human rights violations. Our mission is deeply rooted in empowering refugee women and youth by offering free vocational skills training in areas like tailoring, sewing, hairdressing, videography, and music production. This initiative is aimed at fostering self-reliance and resilience among refugees, equipping them with economic skills for better lives and to counteract human rights abuses effectively. Beyond providing vocational training, DaVision has engaged in numerous awareness sessions and sensitization campaigns aimed to educate the refugee community about the various human rights violations prevalent among their population, further highlighting the organization's comprehensive approach to empowerment. A critical aspect of DaVision's work involves tackling gender-based violence (GBV) through direct engagement with men involved in GBV and policymakers who have the power to instigate change. By advocating for stricter laws and policies against GBV and other human rights violations, DaVision is at the forefront of building a community that respects and protects the rights of women and youth. Addressing the issue of economic disenfranchisement, DaVision champions policies that foster economic empowerment and create avenues for refugees to achieve financial independence. This effort is part of a broader strategy to uplift the refugee community from poverty and dependence. The vocational training programs are pivotal to DaVision's impact, offering more than just skills. Participants gain dignity, self-esteem, and the ability to access new economic opportunities. The cultural and social enrichment of the community is another significant outcome of these programs. For instance, music production and videography initiatives have played a vital role in fostering community cohesion and identity.
